Long before it became fashionable, I’ve strongly encouraged those considering going to college to do something else first. This really pisses people off, particularly parents, my wife being one of them.

Schools are freaking out because they know the value isn’t there.

2020 put a giant exclamation point on it. I’ve read horror stories about schools charging room & board even though students and staff were all virtual. The fact that most schools charged full tuition while you sat at home while someone read to you out of a book is absurd.

No thank you.

Youth is the time to make mistakes.

Short of a major fuck up, you can recover, move on, and no one will be the wiser, except you for actually living your life.

Use the next year of your life to grow and learn.

You just might find that the traditional 4-year residential degree, with its associated debt and opportunity cost, just isn’t worth it.

Proceed with caution.
