The situation is not nearly as scary as your clickbait title suggests. I've long been an advocate of a distributed workforce, as have many in the tech space. Strong skills will always be in demand (and paid at a premium), regardless of location. The real risk, as others have pointed out, is bottom feeding employers driving rates into the gutter.
